Project of the Jubilee Year Group
for the anniversary of the Taganka Theatre.
Taganka Theater, Moscow, 2013
The exhibition consisted exclusively of manifesto texts about the connection between history and modernity, about the possibility of renewal and the beginning of a new stage of the theatre's history. The exhibition had the effect of an exploded bomb, caused violent protests and vandalism on the part of the theatre and heated public discussions. It exposed the real situation - the theatre, once innovative, has turned into a conservative institution, halted in its development and willing only to trade in the vestiges of its great past. It also reflected the situation of a global split of Russian culture as a whole into two camps - conservative, oriented towards the Soviet past, and liberal, oriented towards development and the future.
